Mauritius nightlife and beach clubs

Sunset drinks, beach clubs, sega and late nights: where to go, area by area.

Mauritius is not a party island like Ibiza, but it has a relaxed and friendly nightlife. Evenings start with a sunset drink, carry on in a beach bar or restaurant, and in Grand Baie can go on late into the night. Bars and clubs change often, so ask locals or your hotel what is popular right now.

Beach clubs and day parties

Beach clubs with loungers, a pool, food and a DJ on weekend afternoons exist on the north and west coasts, and some hotels open their beach bars to outside guests. They come and go, so check recent reviews before you go and book a lounger at weekends.

Sega nights

Sega is the traditional music and dance of Mauritius, played with the ravanne drum. Many hotels hold a sega show one evening a week, and you can also hear it at local festivals and beach parties. Do not be shy if you are invited to dance. Mauritius festival calendar

Getting home safely

Agree on a taxi price before you leave, or ask the bar or restaurant to call one. Do not drink and drive: police checks are common at night. Keep an eye on your belongings in busy bars, and avoid walking alone on dark beaches late at night.
