Who we are
Dodo Guide is an independent travel guide to Mauritius and Rodrigues, written by Valerie.
What we collect
This site has no user accounts and we do not use analytics or advertising cookies at the moment. The only personal data we collect is what you choose to send through the "Free Mauritius cheat sheet" form (see below).
The cheat sheet form
If you ask for the free cheat sheet, we collect your first name and email address, with your consent, to send you the cheat sheet and occasional travel tips. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time. Your data is stored by our email service provider and never sold.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the pages and protect the service.
Fonts
Our fonts are served from our own website, so loading a page does not send your data to Google Fonts.
The interactive map
The map page loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap servers. Your browser connects to them directly, so they see your IP address. The map is only loaded on the map page. The "Near me" button asks for your location; it is only used in your browser to centre the map and is never sent to us.
Affiliate links
When you click a booking link (Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Viator, DiscoverCars, Airalo, EKTA, GetTransfer or Aviasales, through the Travelpayouts, Awin or Impact networks) you leave our site. These partners may use cookies to know that you came from us, so we can earn a commission. Their own privacy policies apply.
Live weather
The home page shows live weather and sea conditions from Open-Meteo. Your browser connects to Open-Meteo directly to load them, so Open-Meteo sees your IP address. No cookies are used.
Cookie choice
A small banner asks whether we may use cookies for anonymous statistics and, later, ads. If you decline (or do not choose), none of those scripts are loaded. Your choice is saved in your own browser (localStorage) and you can change it at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.
Wind and waves map
The home page has a live wind and waves map from Windy.com. It only loads when you scroll down to it; your browser then connects to Windy, which sees your IP address and may use its own cookies under its privacy policy.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or UK, you have rights under the GDPR, including access to and deletion of your personal data. For the cheat sheet list, use the unsubscribe link in any email or write to us; for bookings, contact the partners above.
